Gloria Trevi operated for face injury suffered in fall

Mexico City – Mexican singer Gloria Trevi had an emergency operation after suffering a "facial traumatism" when she fell getting off an airplane in Toluca, Mexico, her record label said Friday.

Universal Music said that she slipped on the stairs as she was getting off the plane and fell face down from a height of 2 meters (6.5 feet). She was rushed as an emergency to the Angeles Interlomas Hospital in Mexico City.

Trevi there underwent surgery and is now in stable condition, the company said.

Though her fans expressed concern on social networks about the 43-year-old star, she joked about the incident on her Twitter account.

"When the doctor saw me he said 'WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU!!!' And I said "You oughtta see what the concrete looks like, I knocked a piece out of it ha ha," she said, and then wrote: "It's not how many times you fall, it's how many times you get up ha ha."

Both the artist and doctors said she must have complete rest for 10 days, which means canceling her appearance at the July 21 Premios Juventud 2011 awards gala in Miami.
