Legendary vocalist and fearless equality warrior Christina Aguilera and her fans are really going for it lately, aren’t they? First, there was the extraordinary #JusticeForBionic campaign, which saw Aguilera’s fans rallying to lend support to her misunderstood album Bionic (three years later) in light of recent sabotage allegations by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. (The world we live in is very strange, you guys.)
And now, in a ferocious one-two-punch of fan support, Aguilera has released a soulful, and completely inexplicable, letter to her fans thanking them for their undying love (sample quote: “We’re all made up of beautiful imperfections…Sending everyone an abundance of warm light. Feel me in your hearts, as I feel you in mine. Together we brightly shine. We stand the test of time. Always have, always will”). K.
Then, she rewarded them (but especially the gays, and also other sundry downtrodden types) with a video for her sincerely-really-great Lotus track “Let There Be Love,” comprised of low-quality video coverage of the chanteuse letting there be love in her kitchen (I think?) and also some other places (?!), patched together with footage of fans (?) letting there be love by being gay or non-white or some other stuff. It’s not totally clear.
In fact, the only thing that is clear is that Aguilera still reigns supreme. (And frankly, I’ve warmed to Aguilera quite a bit given how bleak the last year has been for her — it’s tough not to root for the underdog.) This bit of #lotuspromo was well deserved.
