Nelly Furtado Cosmopolitan Photoshoot

Nelly Furtado is ready for a comeback. The Canadian’s seemed to fade from view when The Spirit Indestructible failed to find an audience, but she came back swinging late last year with a fresh indie-pop sound The 38-year-old gives producer John Congleton a lot of the credit for her creative rebirth. “John is like this no-bullshit type of person, so I felt very challenged,” she remembers. “I felt like, ‘I have to impress him. I have to bring my A-game.’ That’s what you want. You want somebody to challenge you. You want to feel pressure. The first day together, we wrote ‘Flatline.’ I remember working on it and he was like, ‘The lyrics are OK, but I think you could do better, you could dig a little deeper.’ Sometimes you need that.” Interestingly, Nelly also reflects on ’00s-defining pop opus, Loose. “When [it] blew up way bigger than anything I’d ever done, I felt swept into this weird pop cyclone,” she reveals. “I was like, ‘Oh, I guess this means I’m supposed to do this, and have a stage that looks like this and costume changes and the whole thing.’ I wanted to do it, because I wanted to try that hat on and prove to myself I could do it… but then it happened and I was like, ‘This is a lot. I don’t think this organically suits my personality.’” Read the full interview here and click through the cute and colorful shoot up top.

NEW: Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Wild Forever

Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 6th LP, Familia, was one of the forgotten gems of 2016. After reinventing herself with a folk album, the Brit returned to her dance-pop roots by infusing her new earthy sound with power chords and disco strings. The former Model filmed the video in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — given the project’s vague Latin theme. “My new album Familia is the bolshier, more extrovert little sister to Wanderlust,” Sophie explained last year. “It sees the Wanderlust girl move away from Eastern Europe to the warmer, sunnier climate of South America where she’s swapped vodka for tequila.” She’s also swapped the drab ensembles of her last era for glamorous outfits, which she accessorizes with vintage scarves, gaudy jewels and an omnipresent glass of champagne. It’s simple, but effective and somehow suits the very good song perfectly.

SAD NEWS FOR THE MUSIC WORLD: George Michael, the British singer, musician and founding member of Wham!, died over the Christmas holiday, his publicist confirms to USA TODAY. He was 53. "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period," read a statement sent to USA TODAY by Michael's London-based publicist, Connie Filippello. "The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage." The musician died in Goring, England. The BBC was the first to report Michael's death. The cause of death was heart failure, according to Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. The pop star's death stunned the entertainment community. His U.S. publicist, Cindi Berger, told the Associated Press he had not been ill. "I am in deep shock," Elton John wrote on Instagram. The track and its music video were planned to be released back in 2014, when it was properly recorded, but unfortunately it was canceled. The video was finally premiered exclusively on NYLON on December 16th. About it, she shared: "The video is based on one of my favorite cult classic films, the iconic Barbarella. I wanted it to feel as authentic as possible, with hand-built optical illusion sets, projections, and classic camera tricks rather than relying on the green screen to capture the zero gravity effect"

NEW: Christina Aguilera - Telepathy (feat. Nile Rogers)

Christina Aguilera teases and throws it back to the days of disco in her latest video, “Telepathy.” It’s her first solo vid in four years forever, but before you get too excited, some bad news: It's short and sweet, even though the song itself clocks in at the standard three minutes. She teamed up with legendary musician Nile Rodgers for the track, which is part of the soundtrack for Netflix’s original show, The Get Down. The series is all about disco and the evolution of hip-hop, so it makes sense the “Telepathy” video takes place in a colorful room complete with a disco ball — even if it’s just for a few seconds.

HOTT JOINT- Tinashe - Superlove

Get ready! American recording artist, singer and songwriter Tinashe is about to re-start the promotion of her long delayed second studio album “Joyride“, which is expected to be released sometime this year via RCA Records. Following the lead turned into another buzz single “Player”, and the second-turned-into-buzz “Ride of Your Life”, the 23-year-old star has confirmed her next shot which is called “Superlove“. The song produced by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart is now confirmed as the proper official lead single from the album and it’s expected to be released on digital retailers and streaming services on July 15th. It’s a cute bop totally influenced by Ciara. A breathy and quite radio-friendly R&B-flavoured unpretentious jam but sounds like an outtake of Keri Hilson. But, is this the best sound for Tinashe? I don’t think so. The Baywatch-themed music video directed by Hannah Lux Davis was premiered exclusively on MTV’s Snapchat
