In 1976, Clooney began his freshman year at Augusta High School in Augusta, Kentucky. He played baseball and basketball as a teen, and even tried out for the Cincinatti Reds in 1977. Unfortunately, he didn't pass the first round of cuts and was not offered a contraract.
